Although there are variations in temperature, all the islands of
Japan have four distinct seasons. Winter is cold, with heavy
snowfall on the mountains in the north and west of the country.
Spring is heralded by the blooming of the cherry trees. Summer is
uncomfortably hot and humid. Autumn brings typhoons, with fierce
winds and drenching rain which often leads to flooding.
